Siassi Adventist Students Sail Across the Rough Seas to Attend Fisika Adventist Students Association 1st Biannual Convention
Gagidu, Finschhafen – January 18, 2025
On the morning of December 25th, 2024, a group of 30 Adventist students and 8 elderly members from Siassi embarked on a remarkable journey that would test their faith, resilience, and unwavering trust in God. The group set sail on a motor canoe named Mon, making the perilous journey across the rough seas of the Vitiaz Strait and Bobongara to attend the 1st Biannual Convention of the Fisika Adventist Students Association at Finschhafen Technical School in Gagidu town.

The journey, which was fraught with challenges, began with early prayers and a sense of unity among the travelers. Despite the unpredictable weather and rough seas, the group remained steadfast in their belief that God would guide them safely through the waters.
“We began this journey with a strong faith in God’s protection,” said one of the students. “There were moments when the waves seemed overwhelming, but we continued to pray, and remove sea water from the Mon and God answered our prayers by keeping us safe.”
The Vitiaz Strait, known for its turbulent waters, and the vast expanse of the open sea presented serious obstacles. Yet, with each passing wave, the faith of the travelers grew stronger, and their resolve to reach the convention was unwavering. The Mon motor canoe, though modest, carried them across these challenging waters, offering both a physical and spiritual symbol of their determination.

As the group neared the mainland, many of them reflected on the significance of their journey. For some, it was their first time traveling across such a vast stretch of ocean. For others, it was an opportunity to connect with fellow students and deepen their faith as part of the wider Adventist community.
“We are truly grateful to God for His divine providence. He has brought us through the storms and ensured our safe arrival,” said one of the elderly members of the group. “It was not just a journey across the sea, but a journey of faith that strengthened our spirit.”
Upon reaching Gagidu town and the Finschhafen Technical School. The theme of the convention, “Anchored in faith; empower to soar,” resonated deeply with the Siassi travelers, whose own journey epitomized the spirit of perseverance and trust in God. The experience was a powerful reminder of the power of faith, prayer, and the resilience of the human with God's intervention when faced with adversity.
The Siassi Adventist students and their elderly companions give all glory and thanks to God for His protection and guidance on this extraordinary journey. Their story serves as an inspiration to all who face challenges, encouraging them to trust in God's providence and to remain resilient in the face of life's storms.
“We have come here not only to learn and grow but to witness the power of prayer and the goodness of God in our lives,” said one of the student leaders. “This journey is a testimony to His faithfulness, and we praise Him for bringing us safely to this beautiful place.”
This incredible story of faith and resilience will forever be a reminder of the boundless strength that can be found in trusting God, no matter how rough the seas may be.
