Welcome to Adventist Aged Care, an outreach of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Siassi

At Yangla Adventist Church, Adventist Compassion embodies our commitment to sharing the love of Jesus through practical acts of service, inspired by the broader mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the South Pacific Division. Drawing from over 150 years of Adventist emphasis on whole-person health and community care, we focus on promoting healthy living for everyone in our community while providing special support for our most vulnerable members, particularly the elderly. Our programs are designed to foster wellness, resilience, and spiritual growth, ensuring that no one is left behind in experiencing the fullness of life that God intends.

Our Mission

Guided by the principles of the South Pacific Division, Adventist Compassion at Yangla seeks to care for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of our neighbors. We believe in serving others as Jesus didโ€”offering hope, healing, and wholeness. Whether through disaster response, everyday community support, or targeted health initiatives, our goal is to build stronger, healthier families and communities right here in Yangla.

ย Focus on Healthy Living for All:

Healthy living is at the heart of what we do, aligning with the Adventist tradition of advocating for balanced lifestyles that honor the body as a temple of the Holy Spirit. We promote evidence-based practices such as a plant-based diet, regular exercise, adequate sleep, and abstinence from harmful substances like tobacco and alcohol. These habits have been shown to boost immunity, reduce inflammation, maintain healthy weight, and lower the risk of chronic diseases like cancer and heart conditions.

Our local programs include:

Health Education Workshops:

ย Free sessions on nutrition, stress management, and wellness, adapted from South Pacific Division resources like the Complete Health Improvement Program (CHIP) and The Live More Project. These are open to all ages and emphasize simple, sustainable changes for better daily living.

Community Gardens and Nutrition Initiatives:ย

We maintain gardens to provide fresh, plant-based foods, teaching sustainable farming and healthy eating to families in Yangla.

Fitness and Wellness Activities:ย

Group exercises, walking clubs, and de-stress sessions to encourage physical activity and mental well-being for every person in our community.ย Special Care for Vulnerable Old Folks.

Recognizing the unique needs of our elderly membersโ€”who often face isolation, health challenges, and limited resourcesโ€”Adventist Compassion places a strong emphasis on aged care. Inspired by the South Pacific Division's aged-care facilities and community services, we offer tailored support to ensure our seniors live with dignity and vitality.

Key initiatives include:

Home Visits and Companionship: Regular check-ins by church volunteers to provide emotional support, light assistance, and companionship, helping combat loneliness and promote mental health.

Elderly Health Screenings and Programs: Partnerships with local health experts for free check-ups, mobility aids, and programs like Forgive to Live, which focus on emotional healing and resilience for older adults.

Support Services: Access to food pantries, financial counseling, and sustainability training, ensuring our vulnerable old folks have the resources they need to thrive. In times of crisis, we draw on the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) networks in Lae for rapid response and aid.
